Thursday 19 th November, 2017 – Highly anticipated fingerstyle documentary Acoustic Uprising will be available for the first time on Monday December 11 via its official website

Acoustic Uprising charts the inspiring story of a global movement that pushes the boundaries of acoustic guitar-playing as we know it. It is the debut feature film of Melbourne guitar-player and fingerstyle enthusiast Drew Roller, who funded the film with the help of Kickstarter supporters and travelled the world to capture the essence of the phenomenon.

“I’ll never forget the first time I witnessed a fingerstyle performance – the ceiling instantly become the floor and I became obsessed,” Roller said.

“I wanted to learn more and when I couldn’t find a way to do that, I decided to create the film.”

Featuring interviews with internationally renowned artists such as Tommy Emmanuel, Kaki King, Newton Faulkner, Sungha Jung and Andy McKee, the documentary meditates on the innovative approach to the ubiquitous acoustic, and the pursuit of musical excellence, and its extraordinary rise to prominence on social media.

Acoustic Uprising shows us how social media is enabling and encouraging a new generation to express themselves artistically like never before, whilst fuelling a rapidly evolving culture of innovation that is pushing this style to ever greater heights.  The film also explores the roots of the fingerstyle movement, including the contribution of pioneering acoustic guitar innovators such as Michael Hedges, Robert Johnson and John Fahey.

Testament to the acoustic guitar community’s passion for the film, the documentary has been a regular fixture at guitar festivals all around the world. Since its world premiere at London Guitar Night in July, it has
visited the Canadian Guitar Festival, Colarado’s Guitar Town, Sydney Guitar Festival with more appearances in Europe and North America still on the cards.

“The next big phase in this film’s journey is to share it with the guitar world at large and we are excited to announce our friends at Elixir Strings have partnered with us to offer free strings with the first 500 download or Blu-ray purchases.” Roller said.
